Time Lapse Photography

Picture1 hour, 14 minutes and 23 seconds for 30 seconds of footage.
If you have a camera with this function, all you need for a good time lapse is the following:
1) A tripod or flat surface that is very stable.  Shaking during a time lapse is disconcerting and ruins the whole effect.

2) A view with an ever-changing scene.  You need rolling clouds, streaking traffic, hordes of people moving, etc. to create a cool time lapse.  The movement of the sun and night sky are popular ones, but you will need a higher quality camera than mine to get the stars.

3) A good book or company.  This is because of number 4.

4) Patience.  A good time lapse will require you to sit and wait.  For a very long time.  Think in terms of at least 15 minutes, but more realistically a half an hour to an hour.  So find a good spot and do some reading (I read huge chunks of Game of Thrones will doing time lapses), or eat your lunch, text, relax, chat with your travel buddy, whatever.  Of course you should not leave your camera and of course you should make sure you have a charged battery before you attempt this.

*Perhaps because of the embedding or size, the videos seem to start at a very low resolution, so make sure you click up if you are watching them full screen!
